Okay, now for the regular birthday stuff - Murphy! Sammy! Max! Front and
center!
(A Handsome Sable ferret looks up from a suitcase he's packing. Murphy is
dressed in traditional Russian peasant garb.)
Murphy: Max is out of town. Sammy is, uh, busy right now. At least I'm here,
sir!
Paul: So I see. What's the idea of dressing up like Fievel from "An American
Tail"?
Murphy: Well. remember back in October when April asked when Sammy was going
to do Fiddler on the Roof? Well, that's what the two of us are gonna do
right now! Or at least when Sammy's ready.
Paul: Really! Where is Sammy, then?
Murphy: He's got his fiddle and he's climbing up to the roof now. (Points at
a nearby two-story house.)
Paul: Oh... (Sammy is shinnying up the drainpipe and not having an easy time
of it.) Um, Murph, is that necessary?
Murphy: Oh, *yes*, sir! Honest!
Paul: Hey, Sammy! You all right? (Sammy mumbles something.)
Murphy: He can't answer you, sir. He's got his fiddle in his mouth.
(Sammy scrambles onto the roof and tries to get his wind back.)
Sammy (removing fiddle from mouth): Murphy, I really think a ladder would
have been okay...
Murphy: Naw, naw, this was fine. The Skippys have the ladders. Okay, just
get to the roof top and let's get ready!
(Sammy climbs precariously up the roof slope to get to the peak. Once there
he manages to stand rather unsteadily.)
Sammy: Murphy, I'm not so sure about this. I can barely keep my balance up
here.
Murphy: No, you'll be fine! Get ready, now. Okay, Sammy, start playing!
(Sammy, unsteadily, begins to play the fiddle. Considering the
circumstances, he does pretty good. Murphy, snapping his fingers and dancing
around, begins to sing.)
Away above my head I see the strangest sight:
A fiddler on the roof who's up there day and night.
He fiddles when it rains, he fiddles when it snows.
I've never seen him rest, yet on and on he goes.
(Sammy, looking very worried at the words "rain" and "snow" stops playing
for a moment, but continues.)
Murphy:
What does it mean, this fiddler on the roof,
Who fiddles every night and fiddles every noon?
Why should he pick so curious a place
To play his little fiddler's tune?
An unexpected breeze could blow him to the ground. (Sammy looks alarmed.)
Yet after every storm, I see he's still around.
Whatever each day brings, this odd outlandish man
He plays his simple tune as sweetly as he can.
(As he gets into the music, Sammy looks less and less worried. He actually
begins to look like he's enjoying himself as he sways a bit to the music.)
Murphy:
What does it mean, this fiddler on the roof,
Who fiddles every night and fiddles every noon?
Why should he pick so curious a place
To play his little fiddler's tune?
(Lost in the music, Sammy begins a little dance. Immediately his feet slip,
and he frantically waves his arms around to keep his balance.)
Murphy:
A fiddler on the roof, a most unlikely sight.
It might not mean a thing...
(Sammy disappears on the other side of the roof with a shriek.)
....but then again it might!
*Thump!*
(Sammy is brought up short, landing on a platform on the other side of the
roof. He looks up to see Skippy, Skippy, Skippy and Skippy looking down at
him.)
Skippy: Hi, there. I didn't expect to see you up here.
Sammy: I didn't expect to still *be* up here! (Looks at scaffolding reaching
up from the ground. The folks on "This Old House" would have been
impressed.) How come I'm not on the ground? What are *you* guys doing up
here!?
Skippy: Oh, we're reshingling the roof. Y'know, you could've used the
ladders here to get up if you wanted to.
Sammy: But I was told you were using the ladders... (Looks down and sees
someone dressed like Fievel Mousekewitz, carrying a suitcase, running off in
the distance.) MURPHY!!!
(Sammy quickly scrambles down the nearest ladder and takes off in pursuit.)
Skippy (watching the chase, shaking his head): Those guys... Okay, quitting
time, fellas! Let's put up the tarp. (Skippy, Skippy, Skippy and Skippy
cover the roof with a tarpaulin and climb down the ladder. On the tarp is
written HAPPY BIRTHDAYS TO EMMET O'BRIEN, MARIUS LOOTS, VALERIETHE

But it's the title theme, rather than IIWARM.

True....

songs from FOTR
